The gift of Surrogacy – The McKenzie Twins
Aevitas Fertility Clinic would like to thank the Mckenzie’s for being open to sharing their fertility journey, -ups and downs, and finally -success through the gift of surrogacy. Here is Tasha’s ‘surrogate story’, written in her own words:
This is our story of not giving up, our story of hope, our story that miracles really do happen when you just keep trying to reach your dream.
The minute you think of giving up, think of the reason you held on for so long. After this emotionally, mentally, physically and financially draining journey. We would never wish this experience on our worst enemy. My husband and I always knew that there would be complications when having children, due to negligence from a doctor when I was only 11 months old. Little did I know when I was just 15 years old my journey started, I met a Professor who did observations on me to see what complications I might have while growing up.
For the past 3 and a half years of marriage we have been trying to conceive. After 3 years and 6 failed IVF’s our fertility professor Prof Kruger (“The Prof”) the man I met when I was 15 years old told us that I couldn’t fall pregnant or carry a baby and we need to take the next step. SURROGACY!!!!
At first, we thought that this wasn’t an option for us, “where on earth would we find someone to do such a selfless, emotionally draining, amazingly courageous good deed for us?” The only way I can explain it, is that an angel came into our lives and offered us her womb.
We had no idea what we were in for or even where to start. After going through the legal contracts, high court, police clearances and medical clearances we felt like criminals but we were finally all good to go. After 2 IVF attempts our surrogate fell pregnant with 100% our genetics. We are not doing this to seek attention but rather we hope that our story will reach other people to give them the understanding of surrogacy and help other families in similar situations to keep fighting for their dreams. And know that you are not alone. You think you know somebody but have no idea what they are dealing with behind the masks they wear. Be sensitive to people as you might not know what pain they are dealing with behind closed doors.
“When do you stop trying?” … YOU DON’T.
We are proud to say that we fell pregnant and we are finally parents of… TWINS. After the heartache and disappointments, it was all worth the wait. No matter how you get there in the end. That chapter has closed and another more exciting one has started.
Our Fraternal Girl twins arrived healthy and were carried to 36 weeks. Born at 2,9kg and 3kg.
We would like to thank:
- Aevitas Fertility Clinic’s team for achieving this miracle. Your team of incredible staff with the most incredible bed side manner helped us continue our path when we thought we couldn’t anymore. Prof Kruger, you are our everything. Without you we would have given up.
- All our friends and family for being our support and shoulder to cry on, we couldn’t have done this without you.
- I would personally like to thank my husband Wayne Mckenzie for loving me and helping me through this tough journey. You were there for me and held my hand when I gave up.
- Most of all we would like to thank our Angel, Lee-ann Laufs our Surrogate, from the bottom of our hearts for making this possible for us and giving us that little bit of hope to hold on to. You and your family are the most incredibly giving and selfless people we know. We feel so honoured that you offered to fulfill our dream. We are amazed that people like you exist in this world. People like you were put here to help others create miracles. You will forever be our superhero.”
Through the selfless act of surrogacy, the Mckenzies were able to make their dreams of becoming parents a reality. Aevitas would like to wish the Mckenzie’s well in this new chapter of their lives!
