Discovery Medical Aid Brings Changes We’ve All Been Waiting For

Infertility is a challenge that many couples face, with approximately one in every six struggling with infertility issues.

Discovery recently announced the news we have all been waiting for, for a long time.

Infertility has never been a well covered disease in South Africa and for many it is a challenge to cover the huge costs associated with fertility treatments.

Not all hope is lost though – Discovery has announced that there are a number of changes that they will be introducing to customers of the next few months.

Up until now, we’ve seen a complete avoidance from the various healthcare institutions on fully funding fertility treatments under their medical aid scheme benefits.

Here are some of the changes we can expect:

Discovery Medical Health Scheme announced today that in order to support members affected by infertility, in the upcoming months DMHS is introducing the Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Therapy benefit, to provide cover for Assisted Reproductive Technologies, such as:

  • In-vitro fertilisation (IVF)
  • Intra-uterine insemination (IUI)
  • Frozen embryo transfers (FET)
  • Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

Wouldn’t it be great if all healthcare institutions saved us the inconvenient stress of having to source for funding or save up for treatments which in most cases are absolutely necessary and very costly.

Discovery is delivering health care in a way that’s relevant to a modern, technologically savvy population where people can make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Rather than only being about money-making, health care then becomes about empowering couples and being there to hold your hand as and when you need it.

Discovery offers comprehensive benefits and cover. Thank you Discovery for enabling our infertility community.
